Grasping Analytical and Mathematical Relationships Visually

In the business realm or any other decision making situation, we know that mathematical relationships are important.

 

Exactly how informative is the following equation?

This a formula for the Normal Distribution, sometimes referred to as a Gaussian or "bell" shaped curve. It is a very precise representation of a commonly encountered statistical pattern.

 

The difficulty with this formula is that it really gives no feel for what the curves look like

and how they vary as parameters are tweaked.

 

The following dashboard shows how such a mathematical formula can be transformed into an interactive visualization. Try adjusting the dials to get a sense of how the curves vary.
